The second book to be produced by Aquaterra Publishing, Beautiful Devon showcases some of the loveliest sights and events in the county of Devon, southwest England, through the photography of Nigel Hicks.
Heavily photo-led, this book is very much intended as photographic memento of the county, most of the book consisting of a series of photo essays that illustrate Devon’s different regions.
Chapter 1 contains much of the book’s text, serving as an introduction to and overview of Devon, with a summary of its landscape, wildlife, countryside and towns, plus a look at farming, fishing and tourism in Devon.
The remaining four chapters are a series of photo essays:
Chapter 2 looks at Exeter (the county capital) and east Devon;
Chapter 3 covers the ‘Riviera’, primarily the coastal region running from Torbay to Plymouth, the heart of Devon’s tourism scene;
Chapter 4 looks at Dartmoor and the heart of Devon, the wild and rugged moorlands and woodlands of Dartmoor National Park, contrasted with the intensely agricultural countryside that surrounds it.
Chapter 5 tours along Devon’s north coast, starting with that part of Exmoor National Park that lies within Devon, passing the stunning Taw and Torridge estuary and finishing at the rugged Atlantic cliffs of the Hartland region, bordering Cornwall.
